She Knows Best - Lifestyle Tips for Guys

Ask away

by Arieanna on September 24th, 2005

Do you have something you want to know about? Hair, shirts, shopping, shoes or simply how to put it all together? Do you want to know how to order food on a date? How to shave? Really, anything.

It’s the beginning of the blog and I’ve been setting some basics for stuff, but now I really want to get down to showing you a lot of specific things, and really giving you something you can go out and do or buy.

Knowing the blog is for whomever is out there reading, I want to give you some useful advice. I’ve had a few requests in comments, and I’m sure to answer them all. So, ask away, and now is a great time to start.

What do you want to know?

I think it would be great if you could do more on how to put everthing together, and grooming. I’ve really enjoyed watching Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and all the tips they offer but don’t watch it entirely enough. Blogs seems to get my attention easier, and they’re around longer (if that made any sense).

I like what you’ve done so far. Keep up the tips.

You might look at Men’s Health and Esquire to see what kind of stuff we secretly want.

I’ll take all the advice you can give on health and living well.

gel alternatives. when i use gel or these loreal fibre putty it generates dandruff! how exactly do you get rid of dandruff when those commercial shampoos dont do the trick.

jayvee: Try using something from a salon. I used to have the same problem until I went to a proper stylist and started using salon products. I prefer Aveda because they have natural products.

Talk to one of the people working when you stop in and ask them questions about what products would work for your hair - they’ve always been very helpful to me. Ask about some of the palmades (or pommades, however you spell it).

Thanks everyone for all the comments and feedback. I’ll be putting together some of this soon.

Jayvee- definitely tap the knowledge of your hair stylist - they know hair best, and are the best one to get in there to see your hair type. This is really important. Sometimes those dandruff shampoos simply don’t work because it strips your hair and scalp of oil, making them dry and flaky - so, no help there!

    Anyway, more on this later!

And how to match colours - good one!

I am attending a friend’s wedding in a few weeks - the wedding service is in the afternoon and the reception in the evening, and the invite requested that we dress “formally”.

I read on a website that formal generally means “black tie”, and a tux is in order. But the same site suggested that a tux should never be worn before 6pm and a dark suit would be more appropriate for a day function.

I don’t really want to be hiring both a suit and a tux - perhaps you can do some tips on wedding attire etiquette ?

Funny - I was thinking of something of the sort soon. It’s a big category, so I’ll try to tackle it with what you ask first then more tips on specific things you can wear to weddings :)
