Blazer with hoodie
Can you wear a hoodie with a blazer? This is a question my friend Leora posed on the weekend.
Well, I thought about it. Watched for it on TV. Did some research. And my conclusion is this:
Can it be done? Yes. Do I recommend it? Probably not.
I disagree with the Men.Style.com author, that it’s a "mixed up look." I think that’s what gives it some edge. Pairing ultra casual with business wear doesn’t have to be bad. We love the tshirt with blazer combo, as does that author I believe. The sweater just happens to fall into a more ‘casual’ role.
If you have the edge to pull it off, you need to follow some rules to make it less confusing. Wear good jeans - torn is part of the fad right now, but they need to be well tailored to your body. Wear a substantial tie with a great buckle. Don’t wear a grey hoodie like the one pictured here - go for something more vintage like yesterday’s brown. I’d also say this was a style best suited for guys in shape, otherwise it will add extra bulk where you really don’t want it.
Two major things to avoid: buying blazers with hoodies built in (yes they exist) as well as avoiding monstrosities like this.
Very few guys can pull this off without looking sloppy, weird, or like they are trying to hard. I recommend sticking with the tshirt if you want to mix casual and formal.
