Cuff Links @ Tiffany’s

by Dexie on October 24th, 2007

Actually, this is more about a lesson on cuff links. But since I got the pictures from Tiffany & Co., I thought I’d title it that way. Plus it’s almost an ode to one of my favorite classic movies, Breakfast At Tiffany’s :) . Anyhooo, according to the DETAILS Men’s Style Manual written by Dan Peres, cuff links are :

.. a safe way for Men to express their individuality and appeal to those who wants to stand out from the chino-wearing crowd. They offer an edge of formality to an outfit, so they are not really suited for casual wear. However, in the right environment–work, a smart dinner, a formal event– they offer a high degree of sophistication. Just be sure to keep it classy: while it might sound a little excessive, it’s worth splashing out for a pair of platinum or gold.

The Manual indicates 4 kinds of cuff links. And here’s the run down for you, with corresponding cuff links from Tiffany’s that you might want to check out after reading our mini-lecture :) .

This is considered classic T-Back cuff links.. T-Backs should be the foundation of a man’s collection. A pair of either silver or gold matches formal spread collar shirts as well as the more casual styles.

This solid round shaped cuff links are as versatile as T-Backs. Silver or gold, on the small side can be dressed up or down.

Barbell, $150.

This is a timeless cuff link style that suits French-cuff shirts worn in a less formal way. Opt for a navy blazer instead of a black-tie outfit.

Double Knot, $350.

This is the more prominent one in the bunch I think coz you are able to experiment with different shapes. From artsy circular ones to simple rectangles. Make sure to avoid oversized or diamond encrusted designed though.
