Guides to Chain/Necklaces

by Dexie on May 6th, 2007

dogtags1.jpgA reader posted a question regarding chains for the right body after reading my picks of silver jewelries from Neiman Marcus. It’s a good question so I had to do a bit of research about the matter. According to SilverFlake.com, the rule of thumb in choosing the right length for a necklace chain would be two sizes, minimum, above your neck measurement. The site even provided a chart, but bear in mind this is for an average-sized neck. For larger size, their advice is to go one size up.

18 inches = base of neck (for smaller size)

20 inches = to collarbone (most common)

22 inches = a few inches below the collarbone

24 inches = just above the sternum

To determine the size of your neck, use a measuring tape to find the size around your neck, then add 2 to four inches to that. If you are wearing a necklace with pendants, cross or medallions, it’s best to use larger chains.
