Hot Shave

Today Ianiv went for a trial hot shave (in prep for our wedding) at a local barbershop called JD’s, and I was actually envious to have facial hair.

For 45 minutes, Ianiv was completely pampered. First he was wrapped in successively warmer towels. Then his face was prepped with layer after layer of shaving balm, and more towels through the process. Slowly, he was shaved with a straight razor.

Now, I expected it to be a fast part, in terms of shaving. You know, long clean swipes. Not so. This barber took smaller swipes on Ianiv’s face, being quite meticulous. Now, Ianiv has very thick coarse facial hair. Probably on the more difficult end of the spectrum. Could be why the swipes were smaller, but it could also just be technique.

At the end he was relaxed with after shave and toner and he was all set. The closest he’s ever been shaved.

My verdict? Farily good. They did miss the annoying area under his nose and a few hairs on his neck were still visible. Likely they didn’t want to go against the grain, so I will forgive them. However, the end result was as I would wish it: no irritation, and smooth. Something never achievable when Ianiv shaves himself.

So, I am satisfied he’ll look amazing for the wedding day :)
