Layering colour and fabric
I am going to start showing you some outfits, pointing out how they are good (or bad) and giving you some tips on how to achieve them.
This style moment is about layering colour and fabric. The outfit is from Club Monaco
What to do:
- Layer your colours and fabrics. Sweaters are not always big, chunky things that are hot and stuffy. There are some great sweaters out there, such as this one, that are thin, soft, and don’t stifle you at the neck area.
- Wear a tshirt that is plain (no prints) and is fairly new - the cotton will look brighter. You can do this with any colour - blue, green, white, grey, or black. White is a great neutral.
- Layer on a sweater - go for v-neck sweaters. They are classic in fit and can be worn in so many ways - on Ts or on business shirts.
- Make sure the sweater does not go too low. To do this, ensure it’s fitted (this means not baggy) and will hold itself well at your waist.
- Put on a pair of pants with a flat front that are not too baggy
- Add a great belt that is wide - this brings attention to the pairing of sweater with pants, adding a whole series of texture and depth to the look.
- Finish off with a nice casual blazer. This is a great time to buy them - they are everywhere as a hot item this season.
What to avoid:
- The white runners. I really dislike them, and think they were used here generically (as can be noted in other pictures).
Don’t worry, I will try to point you in the right directions on buying stuff like what you see here, and on choosing just the right accessories. Just takes time ;)
