Long-Sleeved Tees on sale at Old Navy
Long-sleeved cotton t-shirts are on sale here at Old Navy for $10.50 each, or $7.50 each for 2 or more. According to Mike, the Canadian version of this, in store (not this online sale) is 2 for $25, still a great deal.
When it comes to layering with long sleeve shirts, I think I am a purist and like to see the white, grey or black only. If you are comfortable layering long sleeve over long sleeve, you can use this as your base for another sweater. Good if the sweater is more roomy and you need the warmth.
Typically I prefer layers of short sleeve with sweater rather than long-sleeve with tshirt over, but each look has its merits and so far as a clean-cut casual look goes, you can pull off a great layered look with this crisp shirt and a funky vintage-print Tshirt.
Thanks Mike for the tip on the sale!

would this sort of layering look ok if worn by a woman?

Ok, I dug around for this one! I checked out a ton of pictures and decided that yes, it is ok, but with more restrictions. It has the potential to look shabby, but can be pulled off if the long sleeved shirt is a nice tight fit and paired with a nicer graphic tee - dressing it up, so to speak. I also found a really great combo of 2 different long-sleeved shirts, same thinner material, layered in different pastel colours. that looked great!
