Swim shorts: the style has changed

by Arieanna on January 10th, 2006

According to the style experts of Style.com, men are soon to show off a little more leg in swimwear. No more of the boarder shorts, it’s all about 50s inspired classic cuts:

  1. Vilebrequin - check or "madras" pattern
  2. Loro Piana - seersucker red stripe
  3. Diesel - super short plaid (quite short, indeed)
  4. Tomas Maier - bold stripe (my pick, although not this expensive one)
  5. Jack Spade - almost a classic 50s sailor short (warning, risk of being see through when wet, I would think)

So much for all the swim trunks you own, hey? This year is a big style shift. And might require you to go to the gym to work on your legs ;)

Uhhhh … I’m not sure I’m going to go with this trend. I still like the feeling of being clothed. Not that my legs aren’t sexy enough, on the contrary … :)

Still, I’m not discarding the boarder shorts anytime soon.

There’s a simple equation to determine if a given guy will wear one of the pictured retro monstrosities:

Will he wear Speedos? If yes, then he might try it. If not, he won’t even consider walking around in something that looks suspiciously like the tap-pants someone dug out of a lingerie drawer in 1988.

I wear a speedo or even a thong if I’m at a beach or pool where it’s appropriate. Who can swim or be comfortable in boardshorts? They’re hot and droopy and they never dry out. If you look in the mirror and can say to yourself that you look good great in a speedo ( bikini) then wear it. Anytime, anywhere. It feels great and it’s sooooo much cooler than those godawful board shorts. I hope these new suits really catch on.
