The importance of quality

Quality is one of the major factors in choosing clothes. A good quality shirt will fit comfortably - the nicer the quality, the nicer it will fit and look on you.

If you could see a shot of a high quality cotton shirt against one of poor quality, you would understand. The poor quality shirt will look stiff and have hard wrinkles. The good quality shirt will look and feel soft, will shape nicely to the body, and the wrinkles will look softer.

All the stores I shop in, some expensive some not, have one thing in common (aside from good sale sections): quality.

How do you judge quality?
I do it by feel. I touch absolutely everything. Here are some things to look for:

1. Does it feel soft or stiff/scratchy?

2. Does it feel like cotton or something synthetic? (note, some synthetics are ok)

3. What are the wash/care instructions - usually on the tag.

4. Is it preshrunk? That will help you judge sizing and also durability.

5. When you try it on, does it feel nice or stiff?

My first “look” is always with my hand. Before I even look at the tag for price or size, I have my hand out touching something. This is how I came to have my favourite store list - I have been happy with quality at all of these stores. Some clothes items will have other quality factors to look for, and I’ll be sure to mention them when talking about those clothes items.
