The importance of the door
Opening the door - such a simple gesture, but one so important.
Let me start with an example. Ianiv & I went on our first date almost five years ago. I didn’t really know much about him. It was a casual meeting. But, as we went off to go see a movie, he opened the car door for me - and didn’t notice. It caught my attention - I did a double take. Wow, he opened the door for me. And didn’t even do it as if it were ’something extra’ but rather ’something normal.’
What I learned from this gesture, and how it’s been repeated since then, is that it’s not just the gesture. It’s the way it’s done. Ianiv had it right - he did it as if it were a normal thing to do. As if treating me with that little gesture of respect and kindness was second nature.
So, here is a tip for you: little gestures mean a lot. But how you do them is just as important.
If you are going to do something as ‘old fashioned’ as opening the door for your date or even your wife, don’t do it to get noticed or to get praise. Don’t draw attention to it. Do it because it is a small gesture of appreciation that is felt and is important.
Just one tip from a girl who noticed a guy, was impressed by his manners, then dated, and then got engaged. :)

You, and Ianiv, are so right. It’s all about the little things.
