When to wear a scarf
Well, when it’s cold. ;)
No, really, for guys the choice of when to wear a scarf is not as easy. I just toss one on with any old thing I’m wearing and can get away with it. For you, here are some easy things to follow:
- You’ll look more put-together when you wear a scarf with a fabric/cloth jacket. Not a Goretex or rainjacket.
- The easiest way to wear it is to toss one end around your neck and over your shoulder (see image) or to tie it in the front, having one end over and fix it to lie flat.
- If you are doing some sort of outdoor sport and just want it for warmth, go with a basic color. Nothing fancy there.
- Dress up your dark jacket by choosing a more colourful scarf. Think of a scarf as the tie for your jacket, so don’t put in logos or flashy colours if you wouldn’t wear it in a tie.
- Colours and stripes are great, but don’t clash!
- You can wear scarfs with sweaters too
Scarfs can be fun, as well as functional. Quality can show, so spend some time finding one that is soft, so it won’t bug your neck, and attractive.

really, you think throwing it over the shoulder or tying it up is still manly?
I normally just kind of let it hang and wrap it if it gets really cold.
and what about with a leather jacket? scarf or no scarf?

Good one. If it’s a “bomber style” then a scarf in grey or black usually is best, since it’s more simple. If the jacket is more “blazer” style, the cut will have the style needed to match up well with a more attractive or interesting scarf pattern.

yeah i can’t see myself really rocking the bomber jacket, so usually i stick with a gray and blue plaid cashmere burberry scarf with my black blazer style leather jacket, little bit of color, little bit of pattern not too much. and very, very soft.

Yeah, burberry is a great choice. Especially on eBay :) But, I’m so not a bomber jacket person either!

If I’m wearing a scarf to keep my neck warm (which is most of the time at the moment), I double it up, wrap round my neck and put the ends through the loop - quite chunky but it keeps those drafts out!

Well it was down to 37 for an hour this morning but will soon be 70 so I think this is out of the question for me. Just had to put that in the mix!

So, where to BUY these scarves? ;-)
I got a great jacket on sale this week, and it’s just begging for a scarf to go with it …
