Where are all the small sizes?!?
What is it so darned hard to find clothes in small for men?!?
When I worked in menswear, it was at a fairly upscale menswear store. Most of the stock we got in was in medium. About double that of large and extra large, which we stocked in about equal numbers. Almost nothing was ordered in small.
… and yet, requests for small came in every day. And when we had some things in small, the men would be so excited they would actually ask for and buy any other small shirts or pants we had in stock.
So doesn’t this say something about the demand for smaller sizes?
Today I again experienced this frustration. In two forms:
- Small sized men’s clothes were stocked in about 5-10% of the quantity or variety of other clothes
- Small wasn’t really all that small
The size "small" has been getting bigger. Tshirts and dress shirts went through a phase of "baggy is better" and unfortunately, the tailored slimfit shirt is still not back for all retailers. Slimfit aside, good luck finding even a small-looking small.
This is my rant for the day. I looked at dozens of tshirts, polos & dress shirts for Ianiv today only to be frustrated by the baggy arms, the wide shoulders, the long fit. Grrr!!

I’ll confess to having accepted I’m a medium (or possibly a large depending on the cut.) A larger size used to be essential, b/c they tended to chafe, but I found a few graphic tees at Old Navy that are uber soft!

Yes, soft is an essential. I will admit that I shop by touch - if it’s not soft, I won’t even give it a full look.
